Aqila Farashah

Picture
"I've always loved moving to music, took ballet lessons as a child and trained professionally in drama and theatre, gaining my Equity card via a contract to act and dance at the English National Opera.
I've been bellydancing regularly since 2004, and for the past year and a half I've concentrated on developing my understanding of Egyptian styles.  My main teacher is Jo Wise, but I attend workshops with a range of British-based and international master teachers when possible.
For two years running, I've also attended the Professional Performance Development Course at JWAAD Summer School and this year I went to Cairo and to the Farida Farha Festival in Luxor, where I was taught by Eman Zaki, Mohamed Khazafy and Dandesh, and also performed to live music for the first time.
I've recently decided to enter the 2012-13 Belly Dance Trophies competition to give myself a focus for further development of my dance, and hope to start getting professional dance engagements in the London area."
